Position Description

The Visiting Nurse Association is currently seeking a detail oriented, self-motivated individual with a background in social work or human services who enjoys making a difference in the lives of others as a Parent Coach in the Love and Learn Teen and Young Parent Program. This full-time employee will provide home visitation in Douglas and Sarpy Counties, Nebraska, to prenatal and parenting teens and young families who are facing challenges in health, social or parenting concerns. They should be skilled at working with a team of nurses or other social services professionals. This employee will receive certification in the international early childhood curriculum “Growing Great Kids™” while employed in this program.

Typical duties include:
• Working with the public health nurse to assess family needs and develop a plan of care in collaboration with the family.
• Providing skilled assessments of family needs for supportive services, including administering standardized screening tools in areas such as depression and domestic violence.
• Providing education and referrals to parents on a wide spectrum of child development, parenting and mental health issues.
• Support and reinforce the health and basic care teaching of the public health nurse.
• Promote self-sufficiency and financial stability to parents by providing education and support related to life skills and educational and/or vocational goals.
• Working with the family to enhance their informal support system.
• Understanding and appropriately using the resources of the community, including compliance with Nebraska state mandatory reporter laws for children at risk.
• Participating in community coalitions to promote maternal child health.
Requirements:
• Current Certified Basic Life Support.
• Graduation from an accredited course of study in social work or a related field. BSW preferred.
• 1 to 2 years of experience working with young children and families in a home setting.
• Valid Driver’s License and Auto Insurance coverage.
• Must have your own reliable transportation.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.
